a tranquil setting in which you can create your own learning space
Consisting of almost 4 hectares of spacious grounds, Northpine provides an attractive and safe environment where students are surrounded by the history of the College.
Our location provides our students with a variety of outdoor experiences such as cross country and mountain bike tracks, a swimming pool, four large ovals, tennis courts, three playgrounds, two large undercover basketball areas, a sports centre and a new fitness centre. Courtyards around the school provide zones for meeting, studying or simply having some time out with friends.
Our College also offers purpose-built facilities such as our Performing Arts Centre, attractive drama space as well as well-equipped hospitality, textiles, science and manual arts rooms. In addition, our students have access to a wide selection of resources as well as printing and copying services in our Library Resource Centre.
Every classroom and teaching space is equipped with air-conditioning units, wireless network access and interactive data projectors. Primary students have access to a variety of technology and monitored internet access through class set devices. Secondary students have technology access through our one-to-one laptop program, where they have monitored internet both at school and at home.
To prepare younger children for their transition into Prep, our Early Learning Centre was established in 2007 and now continues to provide a modern space for our keen little learners.
Northpine’s growth and development on our current location began in 1980 and continues even now with our Stage 8 proposed build.
New Beginnings
Following the fire in 1978, which burned down the original school building in Zillmere, the school was moved to Watson Park in Dakabin, with the first buildings being opened in 1980. These buildings included current sections of the Administration building, Infant School and High School.
Primary General Learning Area
The Junior School classrooms currently encompass this area. It is a two storey building, with Years 3 and 4 classrooms on the lower level, and Years 5 and 6 on the upper level.
3-storey Secondary Building / Primary General Learning Area
This area houses most of the Secondary classrooms, including English, Art, Religion, History, Maths and Science. It also includes male and female showers and changing rooms. Stage 3 also included an extension to the Junior School building.
Northpine’s Childcare Centre and Early Learning Centre is situated on the corner of Old Gympie Road and Hughes Road East, and includes learning areas for babies through to the Kindy program. It also has a spacious outdoor play area.
Performing Arts Centre
The Performing Arts Centre is in a central location on campus. Drama classes are held in the upper level, while both the Primary and Secondary Music Departments are in the lower level. It is the venue for many different events throughout the year, including weekly chapels and parades, drama productions and music concerts. It is also home to the Refresh Northpine Community Church.
Year 2 / Manual Arts Extension
The Year 2 building consists of three Year 2 classrooms on the top floor, and The Learning Centre and the Languages classroom on the lower level. The Manual Arts building added a second woodworking shop and learning space used for Design, Engineering and Industrial Technology classes.
Library / Administration / Sports Centre
Our Library Resource Centre and Administration areas were renovated during this time, adding more space. The Sports Centre was also built, which now includes two full sized basketball courts, an expansive stage and a swimming pool which is used for Primary swimming lessons.
Year 7 / Home Ec / Science
Stage 6 added three new classrooms for Year 7, on the lower level. On the upper level, a new Home Economics lab—complete with an industrial kitchen for hospitality courses—was created. The new building also gave us a Textiles classroom and two new Science labs.
Middle School General Learning Area
This new build has been completed. Classes began at the start of Term 3, 2019. It will give us more general learning areas for the Middle School, as well as an amphitheatre that can be used for outdoor concerts and presentations. The learning spaces have been designed to provide innovative areas for the integration of S.T.E.A.M., an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking—concepts that are continually being integrated into the core curriculum and Challenge program.
The Secondary Oval is a multi-functional area that can accommodate a range of sporting and extra-curricular activities. There are four touch football fields which can also serve as two full sized soccer fields, a 400 metre running track and two double long jump pits. Since the opening of this redeveloped area, Northpine students are making great use of the oval spaces on a daily basis and also for Sports Carnivals and Gala events.
Northpine’s proposed next building is in its final stages of planning. The new building will include flexible learning areas for Primary students, sport and PE storage facilities and staff work areas.
